Harpsichordist, organist, and choral artist Loren Carle has been bringing a fresh perspective to classical music in Salt Lake City since transplanting from Montréal (Canada) in 2015.  He holds a Master’s degree in harpsichord performance from McGill University (Montréal), and a Bachelor’s in organ from Mount Allision University (NB, Canada). He has had early music instruction with the Tafelmusik Baroque Orchestra, and multiple international performers who offered masterclasses both in Montréal and Toronto. Loren also held two organist positions in the Anglican Cathedral and College tradition while in Montréal (Christ Church Cathedral, St Matthias), and has extensive choral experience spanning the history of liturgical and concert repertoire. Loren is a founding member of Salt Lake City’s Great Basin Baroque, featuring instrumental music performed by local and regional period instrument specialists. Loren seeks to explore the mysterious worlds of spontaneity and expression hidden in very old sources of Western music, and within the physicality of historically reconstructed instruments and techniques.

Harpsichord

Loren is passionate about the singing, linear quality of French ornamentation, deeply rooted dance rhythms, the fantasy and mysticism of Renaissance and Early Baroque Italy and England. Choosing the right temperament for the music is like choosing the right glass for the wine.

Choral artist

Loren brings a brilliant baritone and refined sense of intonation, diction, and phrasing to vocal ensembles, renaissance through modern. As director, Loren seeks to build the health of each voice into a cohesive, clear ensemble.

Organ

As a soloist, choral accompanist, and leader of hymn-singing, Loren brings grandeur and breadth to highlight breathable vocality, rich colour, and vital rhythm.

Event coordinator

For any concert programme, religious service, or rite of passage, there is an overarching narrative. Music, speaking, and action all dance together.
